The Gruffalo is a clever short story about a mouse who crosses paths with hungry creatures of the forrest. His wittiness keeps him alive by outsmarting these these woodland animals in creating, the gruffalo, who has an appetite for these forrest creatures. This sing-songy book is perfect for read alouds. Its rhymes help young readers make predictions and chorus read. The illustrations are detailed and in proportion to the text. When describing the gruffalo and focusing on small details, the illustration boarders are smaller. They fill the page when moving to the next scene and creature in the forrest. This helps move the story along while the setting remains in one place, the forrest.

Baby Llama will do whatever it takes to get his Mama Llama's attention at bed time. Completely awake with his separation anxiety building, Baby Llama fights to be alone. It all begins when he decides he wants a drink, after Mama Llama has kisses him good night. He screams and waits, screams and waits. Giving himself a scare that Mama Llama isn't there. I think kids and parents alike can relate to this book. Kids will enjoy the rhyme to the read and the expressive illustrations. The reader can truly tell the emotions of Baby and Mama Llama without the words.

Chicken Big is a hysterical read about a chicken who is humongous in size. He is so out of the ordinary, that the other chickens are convinced he is anything but. The things that the other chickens come up with are so out there that kids will clearly understand the comedy in this story. I love how the author has given personality to each chicken and the commentary seems to be the silliest from the smallest chicken. The illustrations are incredibly thought out. The smaller illustrations are from the commentary of the smaller chickens and zoomed in sections of the big chicken. The large illustrations and borders span across one, even a two page spreads are of the big chicken. Even the book itself is bigger/taller than a normal sized picture book.
